I have 2 Italian reds that I think need more time

1) Michele Chiarlo 2001 Barbera D'Asti (1 case)

I have tried this and it seems a little young, not quite there yet as far as complexity or finish.

2) Ruvei 2002 Barbera D'alba (Marchesi Di Barolo) (1 case)

I have also tried this and it is pretty darn good after an hour or 2 in the decanter. I can only imagine it will get better with time but I am not sure how much time is enough or when it will get the point of minimal improvement.

Anyone have experience with these wines?

Thanks!

I haven't had either wine, but most Asti are near term drinkers. So the uniformed opinion is to pop the Asti and hold the Alba.

It's a tough question to get spicific on an answer about any wine. The only answer is to drink them before they go over the hill. Duh! And it would be a SWAG by anyone.

Since you have a case of each I would recommend drinking one every six to nine months until you think it is ready to drink up. If you don't find much change after that period then don't have one for a year or so.

Sounds like a plan.

I am trying to accumulate some Barolo but can't seem to leave it alone. It is so pricey I don't buy much more than a few bottles and I can hear them calling my name from the basement. Such dilemmas!
