Had this Friday evening w/Italian Wino alongside another '97 from Italy for a little comparo action.

Deep cranberry/ruby coloration, quite clear. Legs developed into thick, slow sheets with air time. Big nose w/aromas of cedar, tobacco, plum, and bittersweet chocolate; these flavors are echoed nicely on the palate w/some mint/basil notes.

This wine continued to evolve in the glass and after 1.5 hrs. showed great intensity and balance. 92 pts., room for another point or two w/some more bottle time. Drinking great now, can easily hold another 3-5 yrs. B+ QPR @ $63; would be higher in the $50s.

As always it is nice to hang out with Kybo. I have read a lot about this wine, and finally had a chance to try it. Classic ruby color with slow moving legs. The fresh herbs, plum and plenty of dark chocolate flavors really came together nicely. During the evening Kybo and I both said that this wine as well as the Italian would be 1-2 pts higher with good hearty food. I look forward to trying this wine again in about 2 years. 91pts.
