- 2005 Concha y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Marqués de Casa Concha - Chile, Central Valley, Maipo Valley, Puente Alto (8/10/2008)
Popped the cork and set bottle aside to open for about 90 minutes. Dark magenta in glass. Great nose.....I want to say typical Chilean Cabernet aromas with pronounced loamy earth and clay plus black fruits (black cherry).......but it also smells of herb garden, espresso roast, and cedar. Medium plus in mouth, the fruit is really singing - ripe black fruits with earth, hints of bell pepper, and spices. Big tannins are certainly present but the ripe fruit keeps everything in balance and pushes through on the plus finish. Has definitely put on some weight since the last time I tasted this. I think too many bottles of this bottling are consumed far too young......this could easily age for another 6-8+ years. And still a great red QPR selection.........although I do remember when this was less than $12.00 per bottle. (90 pts.)
