  • 2002 Tikal Patriota - Argentina, Mendoza (5/10/2006)
    WIML91,PURPLE91,NOWA,WS91

Tasted May 10, 2006 at home. Opened and decanted in the glass for about 15-20 minutes beforehand, serving in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Dark purple color in the glass, almost crimson, clear hue throughout. Nose of black berries, a little leather and an attractive floral component. Later a little cocoa and maybe some vanilla/crème. Ripe, juicy fruit on the palate with flavors of blueberries, black berries, plums with a little boysenberry and black licorice. Good tannins and acidity, pretty well balanced overall. James Molesworth said this should be drank between 2003 and 2005 but I think this thing can go at least another year or two, maybe longer. I’d like to read him revisiting this wine at this time. Based on the $24.99 I paid at a local retailer I’d say this wine’s value is between recommended and highly recommended. (91 pts.)
