Very nice dark red opaque color, the nose is not shy, showing cedar and oak notes, blackberries, and just a hint of green bell pepper. On the palate this comes off well, but somewhat singular. Thankfully the bell pepper does not follow through, tannins are fine and well integrated, there are some smoky notes and something familiar and distinctive that neither Teri nor I could pinpoint, but it seems rather one-dimensional. Not dull, and certainly a decent and well crafted wine for a tough vintage, but lacks the depth and complexity one would hope for. 87 points, drink now-2005. | | | |
