| | From Constantia, South Africa. Pale yellow color. Green apple, pear, apricot and melon notes. Some minerality as well as subtle peppery aromas. Very light sweetness, well balanced by the crisp acidity. Good finish. A very solid example of Sauvignon Blanc and a good QPR. 89 pts. | | | |

| Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc Reserve 2004. Unusual for South African Sauvignon Blanc this wine has an emmense power combined with grace and if full of 'Loire Style' Minerality. Beautifully perfumed nose with a hint of flower petals and tropical fruits. The crisp acidity cuts beutifully through flavors of pear, gooseberry and apricot, with a fantastic length. | My favourite sauvignon blanc. If 2004 is as good as 2003, I’m looking forward to be able to buy it again. Got to be the best sb in SA and one of the best in whole planet for the price.
Very sublime and mouthwatering taste indeed!

| I agree with you pickmeup, this probably is the best South African Sauvignon Blancs. I have tried most of the top ones (the one notable emission being the Vergelegen Auction Reserve SB) for SA and this has few contenders (Mulderbosch, Neil Ellis and Thelema are a few steps behind). It is also a really really good QPR @ 15Eur/bottle here, it's easily better than Sancerres and Pouilly Fumes at twice the price. The only Sauvignon Blancs that I have tried in the past 6 months that are better are the Pur Sang (which is in a totally different league altogether to any other SBs but with a price to match), a couple of Sancerres (Vacheron springs to mind, although it's only a few points better for twice the buck) and a few Marlborough (although these are a totally different style so its hard to compare). | | | |

| WineWill,
I agree the Steenberg SB Reserve is probably one of the best SB from S. Africa, but...
Next time you should actually start a new thread, as you are talking about a different vintage (2004, not 2003) and a different wine (the SB Reserve is different from the basic SB - the wine I described in my TN).
Don't take it as a criticism - I'm only asking you this because it makes search easier and also because some people might not realize it's a different wine... It took me some time to realize it myself.
