1997 Albert Mann Tokay Pinot Gris Altenbourg Vendange Tardive -- just beginning to darken slightly from its deep gold color; powerful nose of figs, peaches, minerals; deep and complex flavors of fig, pineapple, pear, mango, anise, minerals; very intense fruit, and remarably long finish. This wine has a fabulous thick, rich, velvety texture, and coats the inside of the mouth wonderfully, yet is not in the least cloying. A wine in perfect balance, still youthful I think. App. 94-5 pts.

Another interesting feature of this wine (and some of Mann's other VT and SGN, although I notice that the '99s have reverted to 375ml) is that it comes in a 500ml bottle, which is just about ideal to end a nice meal for 4 people, and even 6 if they can resist asking for another glass.
