Rieussec's second wine; $15/375 ml.

Medium golden yellow. Smooth oily feel.
Primary taste peach/apricot. A bit of tropical fruit, I think. Got a hint of mustiness (is that botrytis?).

The first night, found it a little too acid.

The second night , better balance, and a hint of resin.

Pleasant, but not earthshaking.

This got better. On day 4, orange blossom and a hint of honey in the nose, fruity flavors more pronounced and complex, including a bit of honey. There's also a smell that reminds me of some organic solvent I used to work with in the lab, it's not unpleasant, want to say ethyl aaetate, but can't put my finger on it. It's NOT isoamyl acetate (banana).

A friend theorized that a second wine would get few or none of the botrytis-touched fruits - an interesting theory.

Steffan P's Birthday Dinner - Old World Gems (34th Street Bistro, Austin, Texas): Quite pleasant but very light-bodied. Young with pineapple flavors. (87 pts.)

Interesting, but wrong. The non-botrytis fruit goes to make a dry wine called R de Rieussec. It's pleasant enough and reasonable value at under $10; "Quaffable but hardly transcendent" as the saying goes.
