| 1947 Chateau Caillou Crème de Tete
This was quite intriguing. It showed plenty of dryer more secondary character obviously with the age, more honeycomb, caramel, baked vanilla meringue, a note of sweet spice and some glacee fruits. On the palate it was medium sweet with a vibrant acidity, lots of vanillin on the palate and a spicy touch of oak on the terrific finish. It was a bit one-dimensional after even the young Yquem, not as generous or giving of itself, not closed just not having as much stuffing. It had a really fine intensity but seemed to lack a buoyancy to make it great. I think it may be on the back slope of maturity but is still very fine Sauternes.-rv | | | |
