| Sine Qua Non Mr. K The Strawman Vin de Paille
This is made from 100% dried Semillon. In French Vin de Paille is “straw wine”, wines made from grapes that have been dried on straw mats. In this case it was more likely plastic bins. It had a ‘knock out’ nose of sweet flowers, glacee fruits, jam and a BIG dollop of spiced vanilla perfume. The nose really whacks you in the face. On the palate it is pure richness with unctuous viscosity, a zealous sweetness and a finish that holds on for dear life! The palate is terrifically intense showing tons of candy and fruit, zesty and invigorating. This is a wine that is almost overpowering to the senses. It should age for a very long time, 5-10 atleast and way beyond that.-rv | | | |

| Jason, thanks for the note. I tasted the 2001 Mr. K wines (multiple times; couldn't stay away from the SQN table!) a few months back at the Bonaccorsi benefit at Wallys, poured by the Man(fred) himself. Loved them, though the Straw Man might, at this stage in its evolution, be just one notch too cotton-candy sweet for my taste (371 grams residual sugar per RMP vs. 255 grams for the '01 Noble Man). But the Straw Man and Noble Man were both really impressive. I'd like to pick up a couple of each at some point. Expensive, though, in comparison, for example, to '01 Sauturnes. I'm on the SQN waiting list but have bought several 00 Straw Mans, a 00 Noble Man and an 01 Ice Man from K&L ($109/375). Was not planning to try any of them for at least 5 years. How long would others let them rest?

| | This was the 2000(or was it 1998?) from what I can recall. These are good now and I am not sure how much time it would need. These are on the shelf locally at $100per. | | | |

| Hi Jason!
I have each of the 1998 until 2000 lying in my cellar and have tasted neither of them. As much as i can recall the 1998 and the 1999 were sold as "Vin de Paille" and from (including) 2000 on Mr. Krankl & Mr. Kracher changed their marketing strategy and since then it hits the shelves as "Straw man".
You mentioned: "In this case it was more likely plastic bins" - is there a negative flavour you're describing with this sentence?

| | Nothing negative meant by it. Just that straw mats are usually used in this style and they probably used bins instead. I just looked at where I had written the name down and it was the 1998 version. I thought it had Strawman listed on the bottle??? | | | |
