1961 Chateau Suduiraut

This was holding its maturity very well. It had plenty of secondary character roasted nuts, poached figs, some glacee fruits a nice touch of vanillin, but really pushing the nuttiness to the fore. On the palate it was medium sweet leaning towards the dry side in its age. It holds plenty of concentration with a good core of poached white fruits including apples and pear, some peach and apricot. The second layer of flavor shows the nuttiness with pecans, almonds and Brazil nuts a nice stroke of caramel on the extended finish too. As you can see it was tremendously complex giving a lush mouth feel, a wonderful acidity that has allowed it to age so well. It is probably at its peak at this point with more time only leading to degradation; a terrific Sauternes (or Preignac more specifically) at a ripe old age. -rv
