1991 Château d'Yquem Sauternes (88 WIML) (B+)

It took a jackhammer to get the cork out of this bottle. Why did we kill this baby? Evaluating young d’Yquem is a frustrating exercise for me to say the least. Picked up mostly apricot aromas and flavors, maybe with a little orange. I couldn’t get past the acidity in the wine. I’d say wait about seven more years and see how it comes together. Too tough to call right now.

1991 was by no means a great vintage. I'm not sure if it will be ready in seven years. My guess is it should reach its peak around 2020.
