| 1998 Kracher Nouvelle Vague Grande Cuvee Trockenbeerenauslese Number 10 -- I think the jury's still out on how long/well the Kracher sweeties will age, but I didn't get a sense that this wine is destined to make old bones. It's showing a burnished copper color verging on amber, noticeably darker than it was 2 years ago when I first had a bottle, and certainly darker than its counterparts of the next two vintages; with only 10 minutes or so of air, it reveals a fabulous nose of cotton candy (like being a kid at a carnival again), honeysuckle, and vanilla; wonderful, light silkiness in the mouth, with butterscotch, honey, jasmine tea, and hints of peach; incredibly long finish that pumps out fresh flavors every time you move your tongue to a different location in your mouth. It's got that rare dichotomy of lightness and remarkable concentration that doesn't come along often. Around 96-97 pts., maybe more.
1998 Kracher Nouvelle Vague Chardonnay Trockenbeerenauslese Number 9 -- pretty much identical color and intensity to the wine above; distinguished by different flavors, leaning toward the citrus side of things (though you'd be hard-pressed to identify this as a Chardonnay), with lots of creme brulee and caramel notes. I'd give this a point less than the Grande Cuvee which is a bit more exotic, but if someone were to reverse the numerical ratings of the two, they'd get no argument from me. These wines are both quite stunning, about as forceful as dessert wines can get while still being balanced and inviting.
(These were the last 2 wines tasted at the dinner at Oliveto's; the only ones I wrote notes on when we returned to our hotel. Could still taste them.)

| Well described, Seaquam-
Mine are staying put after trying at release. Clearly, whatever is going on, there's no loss of content. I haven't had these recently but I had a 4 several months ago from the same vintage.
The color may become more amber but I suspect there's enough residual sugar yet low alcohol to keep these pumping out delirious flavors and the pot brewing for quite some time.
