| | 1977 Gould-Campbell Vintage Port -- a powerhouse! Still very dark; intense nose of violets, sugar syrup, blackberries; very intense flavors of berries, tar, chocolate; huge round tannins on the extremely long finish, with lots of fruit and chocolate showing at the end. Almost a timeless wine. Drinkable now certainly, will go for years and years. App. 95-6 pts. | | | |

| | Dark garnet colour to a pink rim. Aromas of alcohol, raisins, and red fruits. Medium-full bodied, with raisins, spice box, black plums, coffee. A bit of green too. Moderate-long finish, ~35-40s with coffee ground notes. 88 points (10/02/2004). | | | |

| | Green? Not used to seeing that in a Port TN. Hmmm... | | | |

| | *shrug* ... it's just what I tasted. Not unpleasant, but it was there. | | | |

| Hey, I wasn't disputing your tastes at all. I was just surprised to see that reference in your TN. Sounds like you were a bit disappointed - especially if one compares your notes with Seaquam's TN.
Any chance it was an off bottle?

| Garnet? Pink? The bottles I've opened have all been inky dark, with no signs yet of their age.
I've had this wine 3 times and don't intend to touch my remaining bottles for a few more years. I'm even concerned about when my magnum (thanks again, Lafon!) might finally be ready to open, as I'd like to still be alive when it happens.
I don't think anyone's surprised when 27-year old wines show bottle variations.

| Seaquam,
You're very welcome! Just the right pairing with a cigar. Now if only we can teach Tyee which end of the cigar you dip into the port!

| | It's quite possible it was an off bottle. A better person to ask would be bman. The wine came from his cellar, and it was opened at his house. I believe he's had this Port before as well, so he would have a better idea. | | | |
