1970 Dow Vintage Port. A little above shoulder. WOW!!!! This stuff was really good!!! Slight amber edge to an otherwise very dark garnet/purple color. The nost was HUGE while decanting through cheese cloth. Lots and lots of sediment that clogged the cloth. Left a good inch of port in the bottle. Huge plum and prune? on the palate, definite sense of dark berry brandy... very smooth, super enjoyable... While it could last a little longer I think, I doubt it'd get any better. Drink this now. Superb. Both bottles were consistent. Rev rates it: 96

Revlis,

Great to know. I have a bottle of this waiting for me once I finish my PhD.

I only hope I can find the time before another 33 years goes by!

Where did you get your bottle and how much did you pay? I got my from winelibrary.com and paid $99 for it.

Survey Says?? DING DING DING.

I got my from WL as well and paid whatever the sale price was, or 20% discount was.

Definitely very enjoyable. Make sure to decant or strain it somehow... tons of sediment.

Welcome to the board also.

Revlis brought this to the After Dinner VC Party: I was in no shape to take any detailed TNs & my palate was going south very fast, but this is a WOW. One of those wines that makes you take notice. A special bottle of vino. Impressive...

Glad you enjoyed it LCC. T'was my bday wine. I've told some people already, but my goal in life is to drink a wine older than me every birthday for the rest of my life. Then everyone proceeds to ask what I"ll dirnk when i'm 90... well... we'll see ;-)

Anyhow, third bottle was very consistent even though the cork was saturated. Loved it a lot... really enjoyed it even after the 20 different wines I had that night. (give or take) Good thing at the afterparty I only had small sips of everything.

Rev still rates it 96. I loved it.

Thanks for bringing this Revlis. This was a great wine. It was my WOTN at the Afterparty, followed my the Albert Mann and the Henry's Drive. I'd put this wine in the mid 90s scorewise.

HOLY SH*T! Thank You, Revlis. I hope I get to try this again when it isn’t my 20th wine of the evening. Seriously great wine. Sweet wine of the after-party. 95 pts.

This was really, really good. This was my first vintage Port, believe it or not. But man this was good and smooth and nuanced. I was starting to fade, but I could see how excellent this was. Wow.

  • 1970 Dow's Porto [Porto, Douro, Portugal] 95 pts. (4/18/2004)
Dark, rich red color. Like an aging hollywood starlet, you wouldn't know how old this was just by looking at it. Pungent creamy fruit, this has so much life left with layers and layers of flavor. Vanilla, Cigar box, toffee, cherry, chocolate. Really needs more time though. 95+
