Moderate lemon colored core with some wateriness at the rim. A pronounced nose of lemon curd and pineapple. The wine possesses lots of glycerine and has an oily texture, but is not tubby. Lots of Anjou pear, macadamia nut and a bit of oak vanilla. A bit of alcohol peaked through, but it was not too distracting. At over 15%, it is amazing that the fruit can cover it. This wine should improve over the next year or 2. jb Rating 88+. QPR B-. jb

Did you decant this wine at all, jb? the 2001 I remember to be almost painfully intense upon opening... and it was drinking nicely on the the second day.

No, I didn't. I don't really think it needed it. It is a very good wine that might be an excellent one in a year or so. Hopefully the alcohol doesn't take control of the wine. jb

I had a bottle of this on Saturday night with Pork Tenderloin in dijon mustard and fennel seed marinade and it was delicious. jb's notes are spot on, and I would give this bottle a 90 with the food.

The high alcohol content has been totally absorbed by the wealth of fruit and the lovely pear and vanilla oak spice tones. This is a Chardonnay that is ready to drink and should be consumed by 2007. jb
