  • 2005 Brewer-Clifton Chardonnay Seasmoke - USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Rita Hills (3/10/2007)
Tasted at a retail wine tasting. Notes of mineral, dried pineapple, candied orange peel, and (a bit too much) toasted oak. Long finish. But also some considerable heat. To be honest, this wine did not wow me, but at the same time, it did not feel as though it was quite ready to drink. I have a couple in my cellar, but I think I will hold off opening one for about a year. (90 pts.)

Tex,

I can't speak for the Chards, but I can definitely say that my experience with B-C wines is that they need to be aged for awhile.  I had '97 pinots from them that didn't start to taste good until '04 or '05.  Again, I'm not sure this transfers to the Chards, but I think your plan to hold them for awhile may be wise.

Tom, actually that's Phlin with the bottles. I was just trying to get his nickname back.
