Decided to pop one, and was surprised at how well this wine is drinking. Color was light golden, with some haze. Great nose of tropical fruits, especially pineapple, and honeyed citrus with a slight background of minerals. Very well delineated and sharply focused.
Excellent wine easily in the mid-90s.

Thanks for the post, I was only able to buy a few Ritchie and a few Lauren, so I'm reluctant to open any up right now.

2004 Aubert Chardonnay Lauren Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (4/14/2006)
This is a stunning bottle of wine. It is amazingly ripe, opulent, rich and concentrated but is somehow miraculously balanced at the same time. Cloudy in appearance and ripe and clean on the nose, the mid palate is voluptuous, viscous and mouth filling -- no doubt somewhat due to the high alcohol, but it is well integrated and not a bit hot. There is moderate, refreshing acidity and very long sweet finish. There is oak, but it is very subtle, this is not an over-oaked California classic chardonnay. Those used to Chablis and White Burgundies might think this is sweet, but I'm sure there is no residual sugar here, just incredible fruit. (95 pts.)

    wow. Great.
    yellow, very cloudy
pineapple, citrus, lemon curd (viscosity) a little pine nut at the end but it blends into pineapple again. a little sweet, but not negatively so. fairly long finish as well. very tasty.

reminds me of the 02 Kistler Vineyard Kistler, but a little sweeter and more "tropical" (94 pts.)

My wife and I shared this Saturday night with her brother and his wife, who are not wine people at all. This was the first time that I remember Brian drinking a wine down and looking for more each time I offered another pour. We all loved the wine.

Agree with the above notes. Mouth coating and delicious. Balanced and rich. Ripe and rich without being sweet. A delicious wine that has plenty of acidity to carry the wine through to a long tasty finish.

94pts to me.

Best,

Steve

Sometimes it's good to sit back and enjoy a fine wine like this.Â

Pretty green-tinged gold in color and slightly cloudy. Not much else to say but what a great chardonnay. Balanced with laser focus. (94 pts.)

Well, these have lost their "mouthwatering acidity" and are now just perfectly balanced. This has picked up weight, and seems very light on the palate. The amazing thing about these chards is that they have retained all of their fruit. I don't know of another chard that ages this way, but I'm assuming Marcassin does, and maybe Kongsgaard. But I have some Peter Michaels that all seem to have an aged quality to their fruit. This is all lemon drop and viscosity. Aging well, and if it picks up more complexity with more time we are in for an exceptional treat. Decant. Drink or hold. 96 points.
