| Hold onto your hats folks. I know it's a shock, but I have a tasting note. I drink a lot of wine. It's just seldom I run across one that I feel deserves the effort.
1999 Grgich Hills Fumé Blanc, Dry Sauvignon Blanc
750ml btl, 12.8% alc, bought at Whole Foods in 2000 (I think). There's no description on the label. Just their pretty grape graphic and brands.
What a nice wine. It's drinking very mellow and fruity right now. I poured this with some spicy cod and cauliflower where it held up very well, complimenting the flavors and texture of the meal. The wine improved as it warmed in the glass. I'd recommend serving this at just over cellar temp - maybe 60F - instead of the norm.
Color is a medium yellow. Initial nose is a fruity, toasty caramel. I'm not picking up on much austerity, despite the "dry" on the label (7-year old Cali white - you expect it to go flat by now). Middle notes include floral and fruity. Finish is longer than expected and suggests grapefruit and floral notes.
I really enjoyed drinking this and wish I had purchased more than the few I have. | | | |
