kmpair -

You and I are in the same boat (with the 2001 birth year wines for our sons). I'm holding out for lower prices.

It's my honest belief that 2001 Bordeaux will come down in price since they are sandwiched between 2000 and 2003 (frenzy vintages). There are some excellent wines to be had, but they will be on the shelves for quite some time.

I'm hoping to get this for closer to $125. As I see good prices, I'll be sure to post them for us to share!

I hope you are correct. The 00 vintage is too expensive and the 03 futures could be driven by hype and be priced too high (plus exchange rate issues). Parker is dropping hints all over at eBob about how 01 is the vintage to go for. The 02's are tannic vins de garde wines and old farts like me don't want em because I may not be alive to drink them. I also suspect he has been pleased by his recent tastings in bottle of the 01's. Many wines have been upgraded from his barrel scores. He recently mentioned how good Latour 01 was. He is spilling a lot but not being specific. His issue 152 of the WA will be out in a few weeks, so we shall see. Do you think anyone screwed up buying 01 Cos on futures?

Oh by the way, here is what RP has to say about 01 in context to the 03 futures campaign:

"My instincts suggest that there will be a buying frenzy for 10-20 wines, and getting in at the bottom price(whatever and no matter how high it is) will save those
buyers considerable money over the ultimate in-the-bottle price we see in 2005 and 2006. Otherwise, restraint and prudence seem to be the operative words. I still believe the best buys in Bordeaux today are the finest 2001s, which were sold for reasonable prices, and in some USA stores are now being discounted to raise
money for the 2003 campaign. For example, a brilliant wine is the 2001 Latour...one of my local merchants is selling this at $1,650 a case, which is about one-third the price of the 2000."

Bring it in a decanter. And then tell the waiter in a very loud voice that you "need some nice glasses for this CHATEAU LAFITE ROTHSCHILD I brought"

They'll never know that it's actually Turning Leaf.

This is Mary Clendennon's wine (wife of Jim Clendennon of Au Bon Climat). I have tasted her wines a several tastings and have always liked them (she only makes Viognier). The only bottle I have had at home was corked. I gotta get another one in the cue*.

(*CUE--or however you want to spell it. Three letters is easiest!)

I know! I know! But if you are in my sandbox you will have to spell it CUE! It is just so much easier! Besides, my queue sits on a pool table
