| 2001 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc -- I know this wine has been reviewed many times; what more is there to add? An excellent wine with forceful citrus, tart apple flavors, only faint hints of gooseberry; juicy acidity that makes it great with creamy foods; lip-smacking finish. App. 90-1 pts. I'm delighted that despite the app. 20000 case volume, this wine is remarkably consistent.
Perfect accompaniment to Potato and Leek Soup with a large lightly-grilled sea scallop in the center. Yum!

| I want to try this 1 day.
And, also...isn't this a N.Z. Wine? I think...

| The long explanation: I had written all my notes on one file in Simpletext, and was retrieving them one at a time from my desktop so that I could post each one in its correct forum. However, I forgot for just a fraction of a second that I was in theAustralian TNs only section of the Australia/NZ forum, and posted without properly considering the possible consequences of my actions. A minor mental glitch that I hopefully won't repeat.
The short explanation: I was careless, and messed up.
The true explanation: I was quite hung over and very bleary-eyed (hell, where do you think all these tasting notes came from??).
"The professor" couldn't pass his own test today, let alone try one on someone else.

| | I found the finish on this wine to be remarkable. I have had it once, two years ago on Maui - I can still taste it. | | | |

| Had my last bottle of this on the deck last night as an apertif to dinner (barbecued chicken), and finished the rest after dinner.
Seaquam's notes are right on. While I enjoyed this more than the 2002 version, I still am not a huge fan of SB. This is a well made wine, and likely worthy of his score, but for me I cannot go more than 87 points or so. Mrs. mbansek enjoys it considerably more though, and since she was doing the cooking...
Of course, when I opened this, I did not know she was going to barbecue the chicken, or I would have chosen something else. Which is why we did not drink it with the dinner.

| Revisited this wine on Fri night with my last bottle and it has taken on a more robust flavor profile. The grapefruit and gooseberry flavors have really shown up on the backend finish more than on the immediate front end sip. There is also a more spritzy quality than the last bottle I had. As soon as I took my first sip I had an immediate smile.
If you have any '01 left I would consume by the end of the winter. I would rate this particular bottle 92pts.

| | Isn't it amazing the amount of grapefruit on the nose and in the flavor? I think I can identify a Cloudy Bay just by the nose. | | | |

| | My last bottle last night as well. Agree with Italianwino's notes. This is a great SB that is better now than last year. Wish I had more. | | | |

| | Has anyone tried the chardonnay? Is it worth buying, or is the SB the only way to go? | | | |

I love the Chardonnay and I'm picking up some 2002 tonight along with some Pinot Noir. Buttery, lemony but smooth as silk,

| | Have you tried the pinot noir? I just picked up a 2003 CB Malborough Sauv Blanc and a 2001 CB Pinot. I have heard that Malborough pinots are not as good as Ostegos. | | | |
