| This Matakana based producer caused a storm when he was the first wine in NZ history to retail at over $100 NZD back in 1984. However as the wine was limited to two cases on the domestic market it was hardly a major issue. All of this wine is presently exported except for some lucky individuals (like me!) who got ont he good books so to speak.
Initial herby and stalky nose opened up to reveal a medley of spiced savoury notes particularly leather, cedar and mint. The palate was tight and hard, with acids and tannins dominating. Vine age is apparent with the tannins yielding to the acids allowing a more flowing palate. This wine will be elegant but presently reminds me of young BdM's. It is closed down. No actual SCORE- too tight and austere to be fairly rated. Aprrox range of score 93-97 after a few years, presently don't touch.
