| BAM! This is one great NZ Sauvignon Blanc!
In the glass, it's light golden yellow and gives up intense aromas of (primarily) grapefruit but also kiwi and guava. On the palate it's medium-bodied with a bold streak of acidity that really brings the wine to life. Flavors match the nose -- very concentrated fresh grapefruit along with layers of complex tropical fruit (and maybe a fascinating hint of cola?) that linger beautifully on the reverberating finish.
A really enjoyable wine -- one to linger over, rather than gulp. My score -- at least 93 points. A++ QPR at $15/ea. If you see them -- buy them. I can't imagine you'll be disappointed.
Jeremy -- have you tried this one?

| Yes, I always tend to find Thornbury a little over wrought with acids for my liking- having said this I have scored for the last three vintages like so 2002-92 Points 2001-93 2000-89
So maybe I do enjoy these wines afterall....I just seem to remember thinking needs a little time to intergrate those acids and develope some forward fruit.
By the sounds of it it has.
Thanks for the TN Bottmfshr.

| Here are my TNs on the 2002 Thornbury Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was served with oysters on 1/2 shell, steamed mussels, herbed rice, and asparagus. It was polished off with a hunk of warmed buche de chevre. (Sorry, even though they're dinks, I'm not boycotting France.) The wine was served out of Riedel Vinum Extreme SB glasses. I picked up four bottles of this in Jan. for a sale price of $12.40/per. This was my first experience with Thornbury and I was very much looking forward to it.
The wine's light gold color was a bit darker than I have seen in other recent NZ SBs. It also did not possess any of the greenish tones I have come to expect. No matter. The aromas BURST from the glass. While I have never smelled or tasted gooseberries, I've drank enough NZ SB to know them when I smell them. And this wine had them in spades, along with some occasional yeasty hints. The juicy flavors tended towards pink grapefruit, with some tangerine and bits of bell pepper thrown in for good measure. The wine had nice acidity but was by no means tart. It was just on the full side of medium bodied and I felt was very well balanced. All of this concludes with a fairly long, tongue-smacking finish.
Is this the King of NZ SBs? Well, not yet anway. But for my $$, it is the Prince. I give an enthusiastic rating of "92" to the 02 Thornbury SB.

| Notes from Denver Merlot Tasting
Light golden. Crisp with good fruit and just a hint of grassiness. Chilled, will make a great summer wine. Not many notes on this as we were concentrating more on getting the Reds ready.

| | Had my first bottle of this tonight. With Cloudy Bay creeping up to $25, this was a terrific QPR wine at slightly more than half that amount. Fruit forward with loads of tropical nuances. 91 pts. | | Beta testing a new signature. | |

| Opened my last bottle of this last night. If I hadn't seen the bottle, I would have thought I was drinking a Sancerre. Less grassiness, and more mineral than I am used to in a New Zealand wine. As others have stated, grapefruit aromas and flavors, and wonderful acidity. Awesome drinker, went well with the grilled asparagus I was snacking on waiting for my salmon to finish.
I buy this wine every vintage, and will continue to do so.

| | Grabbed another of these a few weeks ago. My tasting notes above still pretty much hold, but a little less mineral this time. 90 points. Love this wine. | | | |
