I recently had the pleasure of trying this wine from Waiheke Island. They have just finished their first vintage of this exciting new vineyard. Cable are one of two vineyards on the Island that are utilising chardonnay.

The soil is very iron and clay rich. This soil provides a unique ability for the vines to produce very silky and heavy chardonnays (Goldwater Zell also proves this .)that seem to have a finesse and balance about them also.

Cable Bay is a new winery and vineyard beign set up to cater to Aucklands growing tourist population.

Colour: Gold
Nose: Confectionary and passionfruit notes dominate, with a strong perfumed sweet oak dominating.
Palate: This wine had very broad palate feel, the acids were almost overpowered by the strong sugars and sweeter oak notes. Hints of charcoal bitterness(toasted oak maybe?) however managed to rein these in to create a more intergrated wine, than initially expected.
Overall: A nice wine - worth $30 NZD maybe. 88 Points on the Jeremy Scale.
