| Well, here a treat you don't come across everyday - a six year old NZ Sauvignon Blanc. It was served blind, so we all had no idea what we were drinking. Here are my brief impressions:
Cloudy Bay 1998 Sauvignon Blanc
Medium-bright yellow in color. On the nose, this wine had good vigor, with an understated freshness to it. Fresh citrus rinds, lemonade and honeysuckle on the nose. On the palate, this wine had integrated well, with vibrant notes of citrus and pears, and a great balance. My guess was that it was a New Zealand Chardonnay (1999 or 2000, perhaps?). What a surprise to see a 1998 Cloudy Bay. A real treat - 91 points. Now where's that plate of a dozen Kumamoto oysters? | | | |
