| Qouted from CR info- " Reserve and textural components play a very big part in the Craggy Range style of sav blanc. The Te Muna Road Vineyard style is one of lushness and richness as would be expected from young vines, with an added dimension of capturing, a "graininess" of texture and providing length and persistance of character, not necessarily flavour, but texture. The wine will always finnish dry. Expect the wines to show more textural components and elegance as the vines mature."
A small amount of this wine is barrel fermented and is given 3 months on the lees and is lightly fined before bottling. Alcohol-13.8% Should retail stateside $18USD ( Available February)
My tns Colour-light straw Nose: Great nose, with complex citrus and grapefruit evident. Malo influences there but not overpowering. Palate: Good acids backed with solid intergrated fruit characters. The texture is not so usual for a sav blanc being more silky with the zesty-sprizty nots harmonising with the silkyness of the wine. Excellent length and well developed finish showing age will give it good things not bad. Overall: A very differant although thoroughly enjoyable sav blanc. 90 points on the Jeremy Scale.

| Jeremy -- James Halliday recently reviewed this wine, giving it 94 points and saying it's "a beautiful wine. Aromatic and fragrant, with blossom, honeysuckle, mandarin skin and passionfruit aromas, the tangy palate adds citrus/lime to the flavour basket, aiding the length, finish and aftertaste of a lovely wine." Obviously, you disagree with his point rating on this wine, but do you usually find that you agree with his reviews -- or do you think he's generally a "high grader"? Michael

| I wouldn't think so, I agree with his red ratings, but keep in mind that I taste a hell of a lot more sav blanc than Haliday would. I guess it is just a matter of comparison. He may only compare it against the majority of commercial sav blanc that he has access to in Aussie, where as I get the opportunity to try NZ sav blanc about every second day.
Haliday was at the opening at the same time I was. A great character.

| I had this wine over the past two nights and I agree with your notes, Jeremy, more than Halliday's. Color was almost the color of clear sand. Nose showed mainly citrus flavors with some herbacousness and floral character, but it was a bit too reserved for me, although it was more expansive the second night (vacuvinned in the fridge). On the palate I got mainly citrus and a stoney, mineral character. As you noted, the acidity was extremely well integrated, giving the wine a juicy, rounded mouthfeel. There was no spritzy acidity dancing on the tongue that you might expect. I liked it, but didn't love it. I'd score it a few points lower still -- 88 or so for me. Still, an interesting wine, just not my cup of sauvignon blanc... Next up: maybe a 2002 Thornbury SB... | | | |

| We had this last evening and Jeremy did a very good job defining this one.
I enjoyed this more than the Cloudy Bay I had the prior evening.
WDoT says I agree with jeremy....90pts.
