an upper westside cpa firm. sounds stuffy i know, compared to an upscale chocolate store, but it's closer to what i am used to.

so, i start my first NY "job" 2morrow . the reason i bring it up is because i had narrowed my new "job" down between two companies. the "loser" is a GREAT chocolate store, one of which i would like to personally vouch for. i didn't take the job, so my endorsement is one of taste and quality only.

You did what??? You turned down a job at a chocolate store??? I'm going to faint now

45% milk chocolate???
Doesn't Scharfen Berger make a 'milk' chocolate? I think it is 41% and it doesn't really contain any milk at all. I could be wrong, as my memory sucks. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

TBird, have you been to either one of his (Torres') shops in NYC? I think there is one in Brooklyn and another in Manhattan. I want to hit one of them the next time I am up in NYC. I hear his hot chocolate is killer. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

we've been to the one in brooklyn twice now, and went there specifically for the hot chocolate(my wife is COMPLETELY addicted). i'm not a big hot chocolate fan, so i just have a little bit of hers. i can see me NEEDING to stay away from that stuff before i start snorting it like a cocaine party at sam kinisons house ! my wife brought home an 18oz tin(minus the straw ) full of the stuff.

I have not been, but I would tend to agree that the place rocks. I could get very addicted to the stuff myself and I haven't even tried it yet. It is high on my list of places to go in NYC. Other places would include some of the pizza places that use coal fired ovens. | | www.roguefood.com -- www.cellartracker.com

Yes Scharffen Berger makes a 41% milk chocolate. It contains Organic Whole Dry Milk and Organic Non-Fat Dry Milk.
I don't care for milk chocolate, but once in a while, I'll do a Milk Chocolate Blind Tasting for the kids. I cut up a few squares into small pieces and they taste back and forth and come up with a favorite.
I did one last night and the Sharffen Berger was the winner:
1. Sharffen Berger 2oz (41%) - Fudgy taste, not overly sweet, long finish. I could enjoy this too. 2. E. Guittard 2oz (38%) - Average chocolate taste but with a nice spiciness. 3. Moonstruck 2oz (?%) - Nice chocolate flavor but very sweet. 4. Rapunzel 3oz (37%) - Simple and "cheesy". Hard to want a 2nd bite beside the others.

| Green & Black's Organic Smooth Dark Real Coffee 67%:
Pass, not recommended. Not @ all an enjoyable bar of dark chocolate. Uncharacteristically, we could hardly finish it.

| | Veritas True Flats Espresso & Dark Chocolate 52%: I've had this before & posted about it before. Not the best quality chocolate you can find, but pretty tasty nonetheless. The combination of dark chocolate & ground espresso beans hits the spot! | | | |
