The Michel Cluizel Chocolates were right next to the register at the front of the store. They were not in the "Chocolate" area of the store display.

skwid: it's funny that you posted this comment, but I have noticed similar in a few stores that do sell Michel's stuff. It is not advertised, but the bars are in the display in the front. (very interesting, but no idea WHY?!?).

Tonight: Cote d'Or Degustation de sensation Intense 70% de cacao: this was a gift from a friend/couple that just came back from France. They bought it in France. It is a very nice dark chocolate, but I've had it before. It's good, not great (imo).

Don't get me wrong, this is very good dark chocolate, but I know it costs about $5.00-$7.00/per. In that price range, I prefer Michel Cluizel, Domori, Neuhaus, Hachez, etc...

The cocoa quality/crop is just not up to par, but still not bad @ all.

And, I appreciate the gift.

Where are you guys finding most of your chocolates these days (aside from online)?

Bought a few bars of Scharffen Berger 70% bars to keep me going for a bit. Couldn't find any nibby bars, though.

I preferred the Pleasure Bar.

Does it melt in your mouth or in your hands?

Yep.

Last night: Cote d'Or Sensations Brut 86% Cacao Noir de Noir.

The higher % of cocao I get the less I like these. The presence in the mouth is a bit drying. At the risk of making a pun I'm thinking something in the 70% range is the sweet spot.

Again tonight and with consistent tasting notes.

Joe

I tried one of those Schraffenberger Chocolate Mints and they are actually good...but reminded me too much of an Andes.

Venchi Puro Cioccolato Fondente Extra 56% Cocoa: I have no recollection where I bought this beauty of a chocolate, but it is awesome! - with:

Otard Au Chateau De Cognac X.O.
Courvoisier de Napoleon Millennium Special Edition Cognac

...that's the way to finish of a weekend. Tomorrow, back to damn work.

Venchi Puro Cioccolato Fondente Extra 56% Cocoa: awesome! Crunchy, crisp, fruity, stimulating, good quality cocoa, & a finish/taste that does not know when to quit.

You taste the cocoa/chocolate 20 mins after the fact. That tells you this is some good a$$ chocolate/cocoa!

Villars Savoir Faire & Tradition Chocolat Noir Swiss 72%:

this is probably the most attractive cover/wrap I've ever seen for a dark chocolate bar.

But, like the old saying goes: don't judge a book by its cover.

An enjoyable bar of dark chocolate. Starts out great, crispy, smoky, nutty, & a bit of cigar. But, falls short on the finish. While a long lasting chocolaty finish, it is a bit on the bitter side. The finish is not all that pleasant. The bitterness overpowers the chocolate & the fruit.

Still pretty good, though better bars to be had for the price.

Michel Cluizel Noir Au Cafe Chocolat: Outrageously awesome. Man, this guy knows chocolate. Tasted cigar, smoky, espresso coffee beans, & crisp. Finish that does not know how to quit. Chocolate of very high quality.

"selected Arabica cocoas from Brazil blended in an deep chocolate harmony" - No argument from me.

I love this guy!

And, over the last 2 weeks: truffles bought in Amsterdam (as recommended by raybanz): WOW, ridiculously wonderful. Sadly, the box is just about running on empty. Only 4 truffles remain.

Attention all choco-holics...I will be somewhere in the next few weeks in which I have access to Michel Cluizel and Cuba Venchi chocolates. Anyone interested in having some sent, PM me and let me know as I am already picking up some for other forumites. But these chocolates have to be pre-ordered to ensure that they will be available.

BTW, what's better...Michel Cluizel or Venchi?

FYI: I'd stay away from Cote d'Or these days now that Kraft owns this producer. The last couple that I bought I found to be OK @ best. Those were my last purchases of Cote d'Or. Money better spent elsewhere now...

I had some Michel Cluizel 45% milk chocolate this past week...and it was the best chocolate I've ever had...beats Schraffenberger by a hundred miles. Out of all places that I got it from...Los Olivos Grocery...they have some good stuff there

Hey, I had to share it with a 4 year old...she's not going to like 78% dark chocolate as much.

so, i start my first NY "job" 2morrow . the reason i bring it up is because i had narrowed my new "job" down between two companies. the "loser" is a GREAT chocolate store, one of which i would like to personally vouch for. i didn't take the job, so my endorsement is one of taste and quality only.

Yeah, you are on the right track, Tbird. I was joking, just having some fun. But, is milk chocolate really chocolate anyway?!?

Interesting site/shop, Tbird. I will make a note of it.
