I recently went to dinner with a friend.  He had a brought an 2005 Araujo Syrah and I brought 2002 Sonoma Pahlmeyer Chard.  We started with the Pahlmeyer and order Apps to suite.  Fried Zuc's and bacon wrapped shrimp.  The sauce was on the sweet side.  Wow the Pahlmeyer really popped.  Since it was the two of use we were still on the chard when are dinner showed up ( we split the Braised pork with garlic mash potato's and ordered a side of grilled Crook necks).  The buttery chard really held up well with the dinner.  Since then I've tried to get my wife to the same place before the menu changes.  I'm feeling that she doesn't get it  Any way back to the story, I was totally amazed at how well the Pahlmeyer held up. We never opened the sryah.  Well, not that night.

Sounds like you had a good food match. Pahlmeyer Chards are big wines that can easily handle big foods. Bacon can really make Chard pop.
