Wife and kids are in the bay area for two weeks!  I was going to crash Father's Day, and then saw $350 for a plane ticket.  Are you KIDDING me?  So, I figured it would be fun to do a running log of dinner without my barefoot contessa cooking for me :-)
 
Tonight?  A 1.3 lb Copper River Sockeye, with an 06 Bressler PN!

Night #2!  Several Bridgestone IPA's into the Celtic's game and some friends swung by for a trip to the Ale House.  Tonight's feast was barbecued hot wings and two more pitchers of Snoqualmie IPA.

Funny you should mention that...  Night #3!  Friday night, at home alone and looking forward to being fast asleep by 9:00.  Dinner?  It's been a crazy week and I got a semi-promotion, so I drove over to a butcher in Issaquah and picked up a 1.6 lb "Butcher's Choice" rib-eye steak, with grilled asparagus drizzled in olive oil and topped with sea salt.  I've got a bottle of 2004 Match Butterdragon Hill open and I'm drifting off to happyland.

 
Guessing what? 45 minutes on the grill?

Night #4 - The Flying Fish
Gotta say, I was reallllly disappointed in the Flying Fish.  We started off with the razor clams (below) and a 2006 Rochioli River Block Chard.  The clams were o.k., but nothing to get excited about.  Next was the wild king salmon with a 2005 Rochioli Little Hill.  (Friend bought dinner, I brought wine).  The salmon was salted and grilled.  Sandra Lee could have dished out a better plate.  Finished the night with an apple pie/crisp dessert that was good.  At the price point, there are just way too many other awesome places to go eat in Seattle.

Both times I've been, I've been disappointed as well.  Fish was nothing to brag about and some of the shellfish actually was b a d.
 
Neither will I go back there, as indeed, there are a multitude of other options.
 
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is .ps - friends don't let friends eat farmed salmon.

Kpak, it would have been great to know that YESTERDAY!!!  I should start PM'ing you before I go out for dinner!  Today, it's all on me though!  Game time in about three hours, so I'm firing up the grill with some friends.

Night 5: Sausages from Fischer's Meats in Issaquah!  3 x Pork and Lamb, 3 x Brauts, 3 x Mild Italian... soaked for 24 hrs in Bridgeport IPA.  $4.99/lb, much more cost effective than last night.
 
 
 
BTW - the crappy exposure on these things is thanks to my T-Mobile Wing.  You didn't think the wife and kids were going to go on vacation and leave the digital cam at home did ya?

Night 6.  The joys of sales!  $8 for a 1.4 lb rib eye at Safeway.  Seasoned with salt, pepper and some olive oil, popped it in a my cast iron skillet and put a sear on that thing that would blow your mind.  Served with a .375 of 2004 Rafanelli Cabernet, this is just hitting the spot!  Here's the conversation with my wife:
 
Me: I've got a rib-eye lined up for tonight.
Wife: Again?  Do you really think another rib-eye is necessary?
Me: It was on sale! Do you know how much money I saved?
Wife: Hrmm.  That would be 'no."
Me: Well, if I went a restaurant and had a burger, that would be $10!
Wife: How much did the wine cost?
Me: What the hell?  Do you work for the IRS now?
Wife: This is your story
Me: Ok, the wine was $23 at Rafanelli.  If I had 2 beers and a burger, I'd drop $25 at dinner (including tip).  This way, I spend $31 and it's WAY better!
Wife: I'm taking the kids to Chili's tonight. 
Me: Did I mention I'm doing a pork shoulder tomorrow?  :-D
 
Tonight's dinner:
 
 
Tune in tomorrow night for Board-O's pork shoulder in riesling!  If anyone is in town, feel free to PM; there's no way I'll eat it by myself!

Night 7 - pork shoulder cooked for 6 hours in 2 bottles of riesling.  I used two bottles of riesling tonight, which meant 2x the time to reduce the damn sauce!  That said, man oh man was this good.  Had a buddy crash and help me knock down some of it while watching Boston come back against the Lakers.  Pic below is from *just* before I dumped in all the wine!
 
 
Tomorrow night is going to be leftovers, so don't expect pics :-D

LOL @ Kpak!

Night 8 - one leftover sausage (really, cast-iron stomach here) and a ton of leftover pork. I still have some left, too! Wonder what's in store for tonight?

Crazy thing is that there's nobody around to help me finish off these bottles, so my consumption has gone from 3 glasses to the full 4.5 glasses per bottle. Bright side is that the last two nights have been rieslings, so we're talking 10-12% alcohol. Thank god there's no Turley in the queue.

Friday and Saturday night should be fun ;-)

Night 9: Oh how the mighty have fallen.

After choking down the last remaining bite of the pork roast for lunch today, I was in the mood for something light and refreshing, something delicious, not overly filling, something... awww f*ck, nobody's gone shopping for healthy stuff in a week.  The romaine in the fridge is wilted and the tomatos on the counter, which I would have eaten salmonela and all, were shriveling like raisins.  I'm certainly not about to jump in the car and drive to the store in the middle of the NBA finals.  Dinner tonight:

 
Clearly, I couldn't go two nights in a row w/o pics, so I ground some pepper up and sprinkled some roasted paprika around the sides to make it look fancier.  I seriously considered passing it off as lobster bisque (with fresh lobster that I had shipped by helicopter direct from Bryan Flannery... oh wait, this isn't eBob), but then I took a second look at the photo and realized the mix of paprika and pepper made it look like my bisque was breaking out in a rash.  Alas, I'm eating a can of Campbell's Chunky Chicken Corn Chowder I found in the pantry, paired with a warped plastic bottle of Crystal Geyser spring water.  I promise, tomorrow will be better... I've got dinner plans with a bunch of restaurant friends.  Tonight?  Absolute crap.
 
Now to figure out how to work this g*dd*mn washing machine that DavidN recommended.  Nobody is doing laundry around here and the control panel on this Duet looks like it's off the set of Star Trek.  Captain's Log 2437.9: The crew is still looking for the soap pour hole, and, uh, the soap.

Nobody is doing laundry around here and the control panel on this Duet looks like it's off the set of Star Trek. Captain's Log 2437.9: The crew is still looking for the soap pour hole, and, uh, the soap.


If you didn't find it - the soap pour hole is a panel on the top left. Slide it out, pour the soap in and slide the panel back in. The soap should have an "HE" on the side. Push the "control on" button, slide the pointer button to the wash program you want, close the door and hold in the red button. The door will lock and the cycle will commence.
