| I routinely find myself salivating at the Allen Brothers moo cow catalog that shows up every few months, but I can't bring myself to plunk down $50 a pound when its far less expensive to buy the same meat cooked at one of our local steakhouses (our inability to BYO wine in CO balances the scale towards staying at home!).
I'm pretty satisfied with the dry-aged beef at whole foods and another local market, which tends towards $25lb for NY Strips, but it is often sold too soon and/or not a prime grade. Has anyone found outstanding, fairly priced beef from a mail-order or online house? | | | |

| CWG, I got a $150 Allen Brothers gift certificate for the holidays. If you were lucky enough to get the same  what would you recommend the wife and I splurge on for a small dinner party or just for the two of us? The Beef Wellington's look incredible but I'm a little wary of them. Should I simply stick to the Filet or Strip? Avoid all the seafood? Damn, that truffle butter looks good!
This is my first order with Allen Brothers so I want the best.

Do you want quantity or quality? If you want the best, go with your favorite cut (mine is NY Strip, others like Filet or Rib Eye) and go dry aged. If you want to make the GC go a bit (not much) farther, go with wet aged of your favorite cut. Or just go nutz and go for the Waygu. The truffle butter does look good, but you can find the same for much less on the net. Google it and order away! Please let me know what you decide. It's all good.... | | | |

Had some references from neighbors, so we took the plunge and bought the chicken and seafood package from him. He threw in a box of rib-eyes. I'll be interested to see how good they actually are ("I'll compare my beef with Omaha Steaks any time!!!"). | |
