The label says it was made from a batch of 1982 shiraz that was being transported up a mountain, when the large barrel fell out of the truck bed, did a complete flip, popped its top, and landed right side up, only spilling a gallon of wine.

Really glad it survived the trip, because this one is absolutely outstanding. Sweeet pecans and licorice on the nose. A caressing, tongue coating mouthfeel, and rich lingering finish. Lovely balance. RP 98P. Otis rating = 95P. Highly recommended at $29 for a 375 ml.

Hmmm. This is a Shiraz/Port. What is the dominant Grape? Is it more of a Port or a Shiraz? Do you drink it with Dinner or after-Dinner drink?

The grape is shiraz, and it's done in a tawny port style. The color is light brownish brick red. Tastes very much like a 20 or 30-yr Tawny from Portugal. It worked quite well as an after-dinner drink. It's not very sweet, but has some carmelized nut/butterscotch notes to it.

Trevor Jones also makes a Shiraz Liqueur that Parker gave 100P, also made from a 1982 batch of shiraz and recently released as NV. I think that one is twice the price and obviously difficult to find. I haven't had an opportunity to taste that one.
