OK, so I've raved about this wine in the past. How it was the wine that got me onto Tatachilla. How it was rich, smooth and flavoursome and how it is one of my favourite wines, regardless of price. And now I've opened another bottle, sooooooo.....

It's gorgeous!

Take the lid off and the aromas of plum, blackcurrant and cherry fill the room, it smell wonderful. A first pour into a glass before decanting leaves you in no doubt that you're in for a treat. The anticipation is too much to bear.

Dark and thick with the fumes following you as you swirl you could be dealing with a Pomerol. Almost no need to put the glass to the nose it is intense and plummy.

In the mouth it is smooth and full flavoured without knocking your head off. The tannins are smooth so no dry mouth gagging like with a young Claret, it is still young and fresh as the fruits hit you. Finish is peppery and has a very satisfying lingering quality. You cannot drink it too quickly, it yearns to be sipped and savoured so it lasted all evening, smoothing out more in the decanter.

It was Friday after my birthday so I treated myself to this. I did not regret it and do not regret having bought another case of this vintage recently. I now have fourteen bottles left and I'm happy.

This still has plenty of life in it - it's five years old already and drinking nicely but still feels young. It will go on for at least five years more and possibly ten - buy it if you can find it.
