| I was given this wine to try for selling in store. Its really hard to sell Aussie whites here but thought I may as well give this a go. As far as regions go the King Valley in Victoria is probably the best region for Pinot Gris in Aussie.
This wine would retail around the $8-10 USD mark.
Tasted in and ISO at room temperature (around 15 degree celsius today.)
This viscous wine has a nice vibrant light straw colour. The slightly phenolic nose exhbits good expression of nuts, vanilla, melon and a hint of peach, although no particular aroma dominates. The nose is quite subtle requiring reasonable temperature and air to really get the smell out ( I warmed this in my hand.). The palate on the other hand is dominated by powerful acids that create a drying effect that throws what little fruit there is evidence of , out the window. The acids are more in line with a NZ sav blanc than my expectations of a PG. This created a very light palate and crisp texture I wasn't expecting (although I did not really enjoy the result.)The small amount of fruit I did pick up on the palate was kerosene and lemon. The length was good but very warm witha bitter finish, although some notes of a nutty flavour hung around for a moment or three. Overall I found this wine dominated by acids and alcohol creating a conflicting wine rather than a harmonius one. Although my expirience in Aussie PG is very limited I have had better in particular Redbanks King Valley PG. I can't recommend this. 79 points. It really needs to intergrate and maybe if given a little time in the bottle it might. I doubt it but it might.
