| 1999 Tollana Eden Valley Clare Valley Shiraz Bin TR16 -- nice dark purple color; promising nose of plum, spice cake, pepper, dark chocolate; about medium-weight in the mouth, good acidity, with some mild but nice flavors of plum, cherry, cracked pepper, a touch of tobacco, and maybe just a hint of steminess; fine tannins stand out a bit in the medium-to-long finish, but the last sensation is of dark fruit. Not to damn this wine with faint praise, but I think this is what is sometimes referred to as "varietally correct." A very nice, well-balanced wine that has no real flaws, but also just doesn't distinguish itself. App. 86-8 pts.
To give it some perspective, this is priced here just below Leasingham Bin 61 and just above Lehmann Barossa Shiraz. In the company of those wines from 98/99/00, this is a bit of a dull cousin.
