1996 Wynn's Coonawara Estate Cabernet Sauvignon --I'm drinking this right now, and for around C$20 at time of purchase, WOW! A cellar orphan that I found tonight, I couldn't be more pleasantly surprised. Lovely dark ruby with faded brick at the rim; expansive nose of tobacco, cedar, violets, plum; a real middleweight in the mouth, but silky like a pair of Armani boxers (OK, I've never actually had those in my mouth, but I kinda like the simile so I'm sticking with it

) and just glides across the palate; plum, blackberry, peppermint, vanilla and sage flavors that persist on a long finish; perfect acidity to carry the flavors; fills the palate entirely. Not a blockbuster--although the finish speaks of concentration that's clearly there yet not overwhelming--but a wine that's exceptionally well-balanced. As always with this kind of surprise, I wish I'd bought a case of this. App. 90-1 pts. I must have caught this at its exact moment of apex (drink now to July 4th

).
