Gee these guys know what they're doing! I tried an experimental Durif they made a few days ago. Its not commercially available, but it was just delicious. Now comes this new attempt, the 2001 Barbera.

Barbera is a famous Italian variety, although it must be said, this is a very Australian style of wine. The wine will be available, exclusively to me at auswine, over the next couple of weeks, and deserves a place in your wine collection, email me.

$20 per bottle by the 6 pack, and an absolute bargain at that price!

My notes - Deep red purple glowing in the glass. The nose is fabulous, an exotic mix of spices, plummy brambly fruit, hints French oak and a delightful waft of violets, so good to smell you almost don't want to taste it. The wine has a delightful almost creamy mouthfeel with a deep core of black and blue berry fruits, vanilla and almost sweet fruit, although ripe tannins lead to a savoury edge on the long finish. Will it cellar, not sure and I don't care too much, its just delicious now. Lovely stuff, something different and seriously underpriced! Tasted blind I decided it was a $30+ bottle of wine.
