Tasted 16/06/2003

Colour: Dark red
Nose: Spiced spruce notes, tobacco , chocolate evolved throughout the evening.
Palate: A green banana effect on the mouth, tannins were so forward it was frightening. Spice was more evident on the palate. Great length but there should have been.
Overall: SO forward and powerful that it was a struggle to finish the bottle between three of us. Needs another five to six years. 91 points.

Jeremy,

Agree, terrific wine but needs loads of time for the tannins to integrated. The 94 is still not quite ready.

Its good value too. The 99 is just as good as the 98 which is interesting as 99 was not a great vintage.

Thanks for the notes guys.

How would you compare this to Orlando's Jacaranda Ridge Cab? I really enjoyed a bottle of the '96 JR, and have a bottle of the '97 JR in the cellar.

TIA,

Otis

TORB,
I've heard mixed reports about 99. Is it generally just not a good vintage or just inconsistant?

Otis,
Sorry haven't had that wine.

Otis,

I have not tried the 97 Jacaranda, the bottle opened was corked but as 97 was not a good vintage I would drink it in the next few years rather than risking it.

Jeremy,

99 was better than many people make out it was just in the shaddow of 98. There are some very good 99's around, you just have to pick them.
