| - 2003 The Australian Premium Wine Collection Grenache Tir Na N'og - Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale (7/20/2008)
Popped and allowed to open in cellar for about 4 hours. Immediately upon opening I couldn't help but notice the great aromas - always a good sign for what's in store. Dark garnet. Raspberry, candied fruits, dried fruits, spice and oak burst from the glass...really, the aromas are just wonderful at this point in this wine's life. Medium body. What great fruit......more raspberry, plus additional complex notions of earth, clove, and hints of cinnamon. Soft tannins and acidity. Not the oak laden monster it was on release, now much better integrated and ready for action. Really reminded me of an oak aged Spanish Garnacha from a hot vintage mixed with an earthy, complex Chateauneuf.....doesn't get much better than that if you like Grenache! As an added note, this is the 5th bottle of this wine I've consumed over the past couple of years - this was easily best. (93 pts.)
