  • 2005 Glaetzer Godolphin - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (3/2/2008)
Decanted for 3.5 hours, then consumed over another 3.5 hours. Very backwards coming out of the bottle, with a bit of pepper on the nose, dark coloring with some fine sediment. Wild flowers, blueberry, tons of fruity aromas. After decant time, this is still not what I'd expect. Acid, fruit, tanin are all there....they just don't want to be friendly to one-another in my glass. Towards the end of the bottle the mouthfeel has come together, with a silky feel and a lingering finish, but the taste still isn't what I'm after or have found in prior vintage. I believe this has the stuffing if left alone for another year or three, but I wouldn't bother at the moment unless you have many bottles to spare. Probably an 89 today, potential for low-mid 90's in the future. (90 pts.)
