| | [script removed] | | 2004 Gnadenfrei Estate Grenache (Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley) [script removed] | 1/13/2008 | davidandrose | 91 | This was a room drop gift from staying with Malcolm Seppelt (from the family that founded Seppelt winery and much of the Barossa Vly) at the Treetops B and B. Limited distribution to guests and at stores/restauarants within southern Oz. Most of his wine is sold to Torbreck, and his fruit from other owned vineyards is purportedly part of Runrig as well as another high-end Torbreck wine currently in awaiting its premier release.
First night - Pop and pour. Nice wine with berry and leaf on the nose, some strawberry, bing cherry and earth on the way down. A finish that lingers nicely, but leaves an overpowering alcohol burn in the esophogus on the way down. 88
Day 2 - This was recorked but not gassed. Much more pleasing, even if this started as a 3YO wine. A little clove joins the nose, with a more watery (in an enjoyable way) profile, and the fruit actually seeming more blue than red. The alcohol burn has largely dissipated. Really a nice wine. Sells for $25. Good value, if the alcohol is a bit of a distraction. (3 views) |
