Next to The Boxer, Turley seems downright Burgundian in nature.  Sweet, syrupy, heavy fruit that was just way over the top.  I didn't get the heat that most people have noted, but it was just a bit much for what I'm looking for in a wine.  Would be great served over ice cream.  Tried before and after the "Mollydooker Shake."  86 AK

I opened my first bottle of the 2006 Boxer on Sunday. I was a bit worried after reading all the negative comments - thinking this would taste somewhat like cough syrup. But I actually enjoyed this wine. It was actually a but subdued when first opened, but after decanting for 2 hours the flavors really opened up.

I found lots of jammy, dark fruit flavors right up front. But I also noticed distinct hints of coffee, chocolate, licorice and pepper. I did not find hugely tight tannins (they were actually very smooth) ... or tons of oak (present but in the background) ... or lots of heat from the alcohol. This was actually a very good accompaniment to our rib eye steak dinner. Note that I did not perform the MollyDooker Shake before opening. In fact, considering the amount of sediment I found, I will not be doing that on any other bottles of this I open in the future.

While I can certainly understand that some will dislike this style ... you can put me down as a YES vote.
