Named after an abandoned goldmine, this wine has always been popular in my shop.

Colour: Dark but clear red
Nose: spiced cherry, very aromatic with other notes of barnyard (not too bad though), US oak and hints of black pepper being evident over the short period I tasted this.
Palate: Initial sweet fruit hit the fore palate then fade to drying tannins creating a reverse "ramp" of flavours. Quite developed with good length. The US oak influence is obvious and although not dominating is evident but intergrated with the sweeter fruit notes.
Overall: An enjoyable but not too special wine. 84 Points but for around $12 USD not to bad.

Thank you Jeremy. Not exactly a glowing review but that is what I wanted to know. I'll pass on this one.

Did you happen to taste the 2000 Redbank King Valley Cabernet-Merlot? I scored that one 87 points. Not too bad for $14.99 US.

Winetex,
Yeah I did but my score was 85 points, however I was pretty sure someone had already done a TN for it, so didn't bother. I guess I was lucky that someone had.

Other than the sex change operation I'd be honored to be called Winetex.

Sorry WIML,
My head is hurting and not from alcohol. I had physio for my foot this morning and they doped me up on pain killers. I'm sitting here all blury headed and sighted, and the name started with Wine, which meant that I could have been in trouble with alot of Forumites.

Appologies to yourself and Winetex.

Pain killers. Cool. Where's Tbird when you need him. He may want to get in on some of these.
