Magpie Estate is a tiny boutique label by winemaker Rolf Binder and UK wine merchant Noel Young. They are best known for The Malcolm made for several years in the mid 90s. The Election is from a different grape source but also shows Rolf's hand in the wine making.

I probably should wait another 5 years to open the next bottle, but this is a delightful wine. It is NOT an over extracted tannic monster. Instead it shows clean blue fruit and a long lingering finish with hints of liquorish and cassis. It was well balanced and went very well with a hearty bean soup and a veal dish.
