| 2004 Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet - Australia, South Eastern (9/18/2006) WIML87,PURPLE88,NOWA,WS85
Tasted September 18, 2006 at home as part of the Wino Depot Tasting with Friend event for September. 13.5% alcohol. 64% Shiraz, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon. Opened and splash decanted 1 hour before serving. Purple color in the glass, fairly clear throughout. Nose of black cherries, black berries, black licorice, a smidge of smoke and some dried herbs. Flavors of black cherries, Bing cherries, a little hint of cocoa and a little bit of vanilla with some bitters and berries on the finish. Medium acidity, medium to firm tannins with medium body. Drink over the short term with a minimum of an hour in the decanter. I doubt this is an ager. Based on our local retail price of $8.99 I’d say the value here is acceptable. | | Yes...this a pretty good wine for the money..drinks very well and smooth for a base line shiraz and of course backed by the Penfold's name. | | | |
