2003 Rolf Binder Shiraz Heysen - Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley (7/5/2006)WIML92,PURPLE91,WA94,NOWS
Tasted July 5, 2006 at home. 14.5% alcohol. Opened and splash decanted about 30 minutes before serving in a Spiegelau Authentis Magnum glass. Purple color in the glass, fairly clear throughout. Nose of blackberries, plums, cassis, smoke, mocha and white pepper. Flavors of blackberries, red berries, bitters, a little blueberries, some jaminess and some black licorice. Firm tannins, good acidity. Much less over the top than most Shiraz I’ve had lately. I'd recommend holding for at least 2-3 years before tasting again. Blowing a little sediment already so beware. Based on the local COSTCO price of $28.99 I'd say the value here is recommended.
