2003 Penley Estate Shiraz Hyland - Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra (5/26/2006)WIML50,WA90,WS85
Tasted May 26, 2006 at a retail tasting. Opened and served about an hour later in a Riedel Vinum Cabernet Sauvignon glass. Dark garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Very offputting nose that is more remeniscient of Pepe Le Peu than anything else, completely masking any pleasant aromas the wine might have to offer. Flavors of then red raspberries, maybe a little red cherry hiding in there. Dusty to stalky tannins with tart acidity. Short finish thank goodness. Drink now if you must. Based on the $17.84 per bottle local retail price I’d say the value unagreeable. I guess that was obvious.
