2003 Henschke Shiraz Grenache Viognier “Henry’s Seven”. Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia. 15% alcohol. $28.
A deep burnished red hue with thin lightly pigmented legs. Gamy aromas of pepper, tart plum, and earth with hints of papery eucalyptus and mint. Smooth in the mouth with good acidity and nice length. Tannins are light and well integrated. An early drinking wine that would be much better if only the excessive gaminess was eliminated. A blend of 67% Shiraz, 28% Grenache and 5% Viognier that was bottled using a Stelvin. Drink now to 2010. 85 points.
