2004 Greenock Creek Grenache. Cornerstone Vineyard, Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia. 15% alcohol. $65. 250 cases made.
Deep red turning almost opaque at the center. Intense scents of York Peppermint Patties, sage, chalk, and dark fruits. Acidity is way too prominent. Tannins are significant and linger. Decent length with sweet plum on the finish. From 65 year old vines, this wine was raised in French oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. A full, deep rather throaty baritone of a wine. Sadly the 2004 Cornerstone turns in a disappointing performance compared to prior efforts from this winery. Frankly I was shocked at how poorly it performed. The wine was aged in French oak for 16 months and then put into glass unfiltered. Drink 2008 to 2012. 85 points.
