Just a stunning wine.

  • 1984 Peter Lehmann Barossa Vines - Australia, South Australia, Barossa Valley (1/21/2006)
Wow. This was an unexpected surprise. Light red color, brown at edges. This wine has a rich minty, eucalyptus nose. I would have never guessed that an Australian cabernet would age this well. It would be fun to slip this wine into a blind tasting of Heitz Martha's Vineyard wines. It would more than hold its own. In Parker's original review he said that this wine should cause a stampede given the price. I agree! (92 pts.)

I can't find any reference in the parker database to this one.

His database only goes back so far. I've alway liked this wine. It reminded me of the old Johnson-Turnbull wines because of the minty nose.

Quote:

88 - The quality of this wine should cause a stampede given the price. Behaving like an excellent, almost exceptional combination of cabernets from Beaulieu Private Reserve (toasty oak, opulent cassis fruit) and Heitz Martha's Vineyard (mint and blackcurrants galore), this fleshy, full bodied, complex wine is loaded with flavor, should age well 7-10 years and is a sensational value.
